Meta has decided to suspend the use of its generative artificial intelligence tools in Brazil following government objections to its new privacy policy.
On Wednesday, Meta Platforms announced the suspension, citing the Brazilian government’s concerns over its new privacy policy related to personal data and AI.
With over 200 million people, Brazil is a key market for Meta. Brazil hosts the second-largest user base for Meta’s WhatsApp, surpassed only by India. In June, Meta organized an event in Sao Paulo to introduce its first AI-driven ad targeting program for businesses using the popular chat service.
Earlier this month, Brazil’s National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) took immediate action to suspend the implementation of Meta’s new privacy policy, which involved using personal data to train generative artificial intelligence systems in the country.
